Infobus for refugees

Why the project is necessary…

New refugees don`t know much about the social, political and administrativ situation in germany. They do not know the responsibilities of the various offices and institutions, nor do they understand the regulations of the asylum procedure and immigration law. The infobus for refugees helps at this point: it informs them and helps to oriantate.

“The other iraqis in the arrival center recommended i should seek consultation at the bus. I instantly felt warmth. Someone really heared my story with interest and care. They explained in my language what is going to happen and how to be prepared. That was a good feeling. I felt accepted and save.” (iraqi refugee)

WHO we are and WHAT we do…

The infobus – as a joint project founded by the munich refugee council and amnesty international munich – is a streetwork-project and a first non-governmental contact point for asylum seekers in Munich. The infobus stands in front of the munich arrival centers for asylum seekers since 2001. The infobus team and his volunteer interpreters advice newly arrived asylum seekers in 13 languages on the following issues:

  • detailed and individual advice on the asylum procedure in Germany in the respective mother tongue without prior appointment
  • preparation of hearings in the mother tongue and, if necessary, placement of interpreters and attendance at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (BAMF)
  • translation of important documents, such as the hearing record
  • assistance in government matters (accompaniment if required)
  • mediation and cooperation with specialist advice centers, such as Solwodi and Jadwiga
  • lawsuit help in case of a negative decision and mediation to lawyers
  • orientation and helpful contacts for everyday life as a refugee in Germany and in neighboring European countries
